Wheel Bearing Retainer Nuts

Basic Installation Procedure

  1. Align thrust  washer key with spindle keyway, and with wrench slots facing out.

  2. Engage thread and spin nut down until the thrust washer bottoms on bearing face.

  3. Apply axial pressure on the wrench, depressing the nut and lock ring which will bottom out against the thrust washer.

  4. While holding the axial pressure, tighten the nut to the prescribed torque to seat the bearing, then back off 1/4 turn.

  5. Still holding the axial pressure, retighten the nut to the final prescribed setting torque.

  6. Release axial pressure.

  7. Bearing is now adjusted from a net fit to a specified clearance, safety locked, and installation is complete.

REMOVAL

To remove, apply axial pressure as described above and back off 1 1/2 to 2 turns, then spin off.
